Sales Associate

Part-time, 15-25 hours per week, must be available some nights and at least one weekend day

Job Summary

The Sales Associate role is responsible for being the frontline sales person in our day to day operations, providing an excellent in-store experience for our visitors, and ensuring the smooth execution of daily tasks. Must love books and yarn!

Responsibilities include customer service, hand-selling, recommending books and appropriate yarn for knit and/or crochet projects, customer order fulfillment, daily and ad hoc task completion, PO fulfillment, cashier duties, maintenance of store appearance, merchandising, and assistance with events.


Position requires:


● A great attitude and ability to work well with others; Ability to foster a cooperative work
environment

● Passion for books, knitting, crochet, or other fiber arts

● Love for creating community and interacting with customers, selling and service;
keeping up with new titles/products and current craft trends

● A team player who can exercise excellent judgment in a fast paced environment

● Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities such as fielding phone calls,
greeting customers, cash handling, and packing and shipping new orders.

● Must be available on weekends, some evenings and some holidays

● Good communication skills both verbal and written, including phone and email
etiquette

● Some familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word, as well as Google Docs

● Retail bookselling, yarn shop or other retail customer service experience a plus

● Knowledge of book industry operations a plus, such as distributors, publishers,
Edelweiss

● Knowledge of hand-knitting a plus, including pattern reading, teaching experience and
a Ravelry account

● Social media know-how a plus


Duties and Responsibilities:


● Bring a positive attitude to help promote a productive, inclusive and enjoyable working
environment for fellow staff and customers

● First point of contact for customer service (CS) experience - Greet every customer,
provide an authentic and memorable experience for them, offer assistance, encourage
revisits, and promote joining our community in person and online while boosting sales

● Assist customers in finding items, making recommendations, ringing them up at the
register

● Complete daily CS tasks including special orders, online orders, packing and shipping,
emailing and calling, alert staff and management of CS issues and inquiries

● Drive sales through hand-selling expertise; provide thoughtful and informed
recommendations

● Maintain accuracy at the sales register and all documentation of sales, customer data,
inventory movement, supplier costs and retail pricing

● Follow shop policies and best practices for cash handling, register sales and returns

● Maintain new and existing inventory through item creation, order fulfillment, POs,
pricing and stocking; maintain SKU integrity and accurate inventory in the store POS
and online shop systems

● Assist with events both in-store, online and offsite

● Assist in merchandising and floorsets in support of current marketing strategies and
events

● Maintain shop cleanliness, keep an orderly register area, backstock, and sales floor
for safety and visual appeal

In-Store Manager


Position: Part-time 30-35 hours a week

Two Rivers & Weird Sisters seeks an experienced, organized, responsible, dynamic leader and multi-tasker to manage a small but talented sales staff in a bustling creative multi-use retail shop. Must be passionate about customer service, reading and fiber arts. This is a chance to be part of a thriving independent bookstore and yarn shop sharing a unique space in the heart of downtown St. Johns. Two Rivers and Weird Sisters have been in operation for six years, are open seven days a week and also operate a robust online shop.
 
Job Summary

Under the general direction of the owners, manage the day-to-day operation of the bookstore and yarn shop. The store manager is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the store and delivery of excellent customer service to everyone we serve. Responsibilities include assisting owners with staff scheduling, daily task execution and delegation, owning customer service issues, maintaining adherence of store policies, inventory and POS management, maintenance of store appearance, and assistance with events and marketing.

  • Management experience, a strong plus
  • Must have intermediate knitting skills at minimum, with some crochet skills; advanced knitting knowledge, a plus
  • This is a fun, active and physically demanding job that requires hours of standing, walking, cleaning, ladder work, lifting of boxes (under 50 lbs).
  • Must be available to work up to 35 hours per week, including evenings and weekends.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead team by providing thoughtful feedback to owners on daily workflow improvements, provide staff training as required, manage shift coverage, daily task allocation, and maintain a positive, productive, inclusive and enjoyable working environment for everyone.
  • Manage inventory, oversight of special orders, receiving, shipping, and return of overstocked or defective merchandise, managing out of stocks and coordination of annual inventory utilizing the store POS. 
  • Supervise and assist with events from planning to execution.
  • Manage the processing and fulfillment of all special orders, online and in-store.
  • Run daily reporting to review adequate inventory levels of key in-stocks, track and identify order issues, and product issues.
  • Oversee merchandising of the store including in-store and window displays and store cleanliness.
  • Train new staff members on store procedures and policies and the POS system.
  • Ensure store policies are being upheld, engage with customers, hand sell, drive sales goals and support staff.
  • Maintain promotions in store and ensure they align with marketing schedule including POS discount codes, signage, visual displays, online shop offerings. 
  • Assist with social media accounts 
  • As a manager, you are responsible for ensuring shifts are covered in the event of call-outs and assist in coverage.
