Ladderback Jacquard Class (Oct 5)
Ladderback Jacquard Colorwork Class
Taught by Karel Chan
When: October 5th, 2025, 4-6pm
Where: In Person at Weird Sisters
Skill Level: Advanced Knitter; Students should have a good understanding of 2 color stranded colorwork knitting.
Class Description: Ladderback Jacquard (LBJ) is a game-changing technique for managing colorwork floats. Once you learn, you may never go back to the classic float-trapping method.
In this advanced class, you’ll learn why this method is so amazing and the benefits of using it over trapping floats. We’ll go over setting up the “ladders,” strategizing where to place them, troubleshooting, and effective yarn management.
We’ll be working on the Pelagia cowl in class. This pattern has a 2-color colorwork motif with plenty of areas with long floats for you to learn and practice LBJ.
Materials to bring:- Worsted weight yarn in 2 colors: 271 yds/ 248m of MC and 65 yds/ 60m of CC
- US 7/4.5mm 20-24”/ 50-60cm circular needles (or size needed to obtain gauge)
- 24 stitch markers: 1 BOR marker, 1 chart repeat marker, 22 smaller markers
- Pelagia Pattern*: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pelagia-2
Homework: Please purchase Pelagia and complete “Cast On and Bottom Edge” and Colorwork chart rounds 1-7 for the cowl prior to class arrival. *Students are required to arrive with their own copy of the pattern.
Pattern Note: The pattern includes directions for a scarf version. It is not recommended to choose the scarf version for this class because of the size of each round.
