Textured Cardigan Class: Mastiha by Thea Colman

When: Thursdays, Jan 8th, 22nd, Feb 5th & 12th from 6:30-8:00pm

Where: In Person at Weird Sisters

Level: Student should be comfortable knitting and purling, knitting in the round and reading patterns. Garment experience is helpful but not required.

Class Description:
In this bottom up cardigan class you will learn essential garment techniques including adjusting fit, working from a chart, cable twists, shaped decreases, ribbed cable cast-on, 1-row buttonholes, picking up stitches and fixing mistakes in pattern.

There will be two week intervals between the first, second, and third classes so you will have time to complete the knitting prior to each session. Celeste will guide you though each portion of the pattern to set you up for success!

Homework for first class: Purchase a copy of Mastiha. Gauge swatch in stockinette stitch (leave stitches live as we will practice the pattern stitches in the first class).   

Materials to Bring (from Pattern): 

  • Required Pattern*: Mastiha by Thea Colman 

  • 1000-1800 yards of DK to worsted weight yarn - Our sample was knit in Kelbourne Woolens Scout DK. We also suggest Brown Sheep Prairie Spun DK or Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok. View all our suggestions for this class here.

  • 30" or longer circular size US 7 and a US 6 in your preferred method for small circumference for cuffs (or sizes needed to obtain gauge).
  • Notions: stitch markers, waster yarn or stitch holders, 1" dia. buttons and needle and thread to sew them on.

*All Students are required to purchase their own copy of the pattern.

Selecting the correct amount of ease is very personal, Celeste can help you decide which size is the best for you based on your personal measurements and fit preferences. Mastiha is knit in one piece from the bottom and meant to be worn short with ~5” of positive ease but we can help you adjust for both length and ease.

GAUGE 

20 sts and 28 rows per 4"/10cm in cable pattern and stockinette, 22 sts and 28 rows in 1x1 rib on smaller needle at cuffs. 6-stitch detail along front edge is 1”/2.5cm wide. Gauge based on final, blocked fabric.

Class Policy: This class requires a minimum of 3 students. Notification of cancellation will be sent within 3 days before class start time if the minimum is not met. In the case of shop cancellation, all registered students will be refunded the class fee. Any additional fees including materials and shipping will not be refunded. Student cancellations are not refundable. Store Credit or class transfers may be issued for student cancellations up to 7 days before class start date. After that, no transfers, refunds or store credits will be issued. Missed classes or no-shows can not be refunded, exchanged or transferred.

Covid Policy: Masks are currently optional but encouraged. Please bring your own mask. Please do not attend class if you are not feeling well or have come into contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 within 5 days of class start time.
